Dear Colleagues, our friend and colleague Gianni Navarra left us on August 24th, 2009. To honour Gianni's memory, the IFSI/INAF, the INFN and the University, in Torino, are organizing a one-day Symposium on "Highlights of Astroparticle Physics". The symposium will be held in Torino on September 20, 2010, at the University Department of Physics, Via Pietro Giuria 1. It will be based on invited lectures, whose topics will cover Gianni's research interests, from astrophysics of cosmic rays to their connection with high-energy particle physics, passing through all the experiments to which he contributed as an outstanding researcher. The program includes the following speakers and talks:
-
Venia
Berezinsky:
Galactic Cosmic Rays: Progress and Problems
-
Michael
Hillas: The helium knee: the triumph of a 60-year search?
- Karl-Heinz Kampert: Cosmic rays from the knee to the transition region: synthesis of KASCADE-Grande - Paolo Lipari: Cosmic rays astrophysics and hadronic interactions - Carlo Morello: The EAS-TOP experiment - Vasily Prosin: Spectrum and composition of cosmic rays by EAS Cherenkov light measurement - Todor Stanev: Propagation of ultra high energy cosmic rays
-
Tiina Suomijarvi:
The experimental future of ultra-high-energy cosmic
rays: projects and perspectives
-
Masahiro Teshima:
Gamma-ray astronomy: present results and future
projects
-
Alan Watson:
The birth and promise of the Pierre Auger
Observatory
We are very glad to invite you to participate in the "Highlights of Astroparticle Physics" Symposium: we kindly ask those of you who are interested to register at the Symposium web site: https://astrohighlights.
We look forward to
meeting you in Torino next September.
